An excerpt of “…the last wise word” on the Constitution of the United States.
September 17, 1787
“In these sentiments, sir, I agree to this Constitution with all its faults, if they are such; because I think a general government necessary for us, and there is no form of government but what may be a blessing to the people if well administered, and believe further that this is is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupt as to need despotic government, being incapable of any other.” Benjamin Franklin
Ol’ Ben’s words remind us where we are today – “in despotism” – given the light of recent events that have beset our nation. The Constitution of the United States is the law of the land. It maintains that we are a nation of laws, laws that provide protection from despotism to EVERYONE. However, in many segments of our population – up to and including our “elected leaders” – it would seem that as a people we have allowed corruption, thus ushering in “…despotic government, being incapable of any other.”
That is why I have stood, and will continue to stand, with President Donald J. Trump. Like our Constitution “with all its faults”, President Trump administered good government because he sought to serve We the People. When reelected, he will do so again, which is probably the only hope that our nation and, by extension, the world will have against this slippery slope of nihilism and faithlessness we now find ourselves sliding down.
It’s time for We the People to hit our knees in prayer, and then get up and act to restore our Constitutional Republic. May God be with us.
